Six Inches of Separation

It would only make sense to devote the inaugural topic of the Six Inches of Separation platform to the inspiration, reason and meaning of its namesake.

Six degrees of separation is a theory that everybody on the planet is separated by only six other people. First proposed in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy argues that anyone on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries. Everybody is separated by only six other people. It would take the “right” six people to actually complete that dot-to-dot connectivity, which in and of itself would not take a matter of minutes by a long shot.

I have a theory, Six inches of separation, which proposes that the black gay male can be connected to the next by six inches. As time has come to pass and shown us in the black gay community, six inches is a damn close approximate measurement of how we may have touched each other figuratively and literally. As vast the number of thousands of gay black men that make up the community all over America, its very easy to make a connection to one another. Sometimes, just a mere mentioning the names of two to three persons, and bam, a connection is made.

Now I’m sure a great deal of the population would agree with me through the advancement of technology, i.e. the amazing World Wide Web, has made the process of connecting one brother to another even easier. Now, it only takes naming one “dick” or “ass” via a profile tag created on any of the plethora of social network websites, and wham bam!! “Oh yeah, I know him.”
